    Hardy traded to Twins

    Via Twitter:

Brewercom Brewers acquire CF Carlos Gomez from Minnesota in exchange for SS J.J. Hardy.

Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Please be wrong.  Gomez is great defensively but his sucky bat more than cancels that out

Haudricourt That's according to the Brewercom. And now I have it confirmed.

    Terrible trade for the Brewers.

I apologize to Radio, I guess he was right.

This ain't good. Can't hit at all. Can't get on base, no power, basically a black hole at the plate. At least Hardy had some history of being a good hitter at one time.

Not a big fan of this trade at all. I am all for possibly trading JJ for some Help (Pitching, etc), but I am not sure THIS trade makes sense.

Between Cam salary and JJ salary the Brewers cut almost 15 mil from their payroll.  It will be interesting to see what they do with that money.

I apologize to Radio, I guess he was right.

He's young, fast and plays defense.  Also, he's moving from the AL to the NL.

Unfortunately, he wasn't a great hitter in the minors.  Here is what John Sickels had to say about him in 2008:

    3) Carlos Gomez, OF, Grade B/B+: Traded to Twins. Hitting .250/.284/.349 with 21 steals. Fun to watch due to glove and speed, but horrible plate discipline and lack of consistent power remain huge problems. Big difference between tools and skills here.

Like I said before, not really a fan of this trade.  They must not have any faith in Lorenzo Cain.

Either this is a massive FAIL on Melvin's part, or Hardy's value had plummeted more than we realized.

I'm underwhelmed with this move. I agree with SeattlePilot as it now appears to almost corner Melvin into either a trade and/or FA move for SP(s)

Remember, his greatest asset is his speed, which is neutralized under the current manager.

Escobar and whoever catches (probably Salome) won't be that good offensively either.  And Corey Hart and Weeks are guess too.  At least the team has great pitching.

Who cares about his speed?  He won't be on base in the first place.

I have more faith in him becoming a quality big leaguer than Gomez.  Maybe he can Micael Bourn us and learn how to get on base though.  Then maybe the manager can actually run sometimes
