Terrible trade for the Brewers.
I apologize to Radio, I guess he was right.
He's young, fast and plays defense. Also, he's moving from the AL to the NL. Unfortunately, he wasn't a great hitter in the minors. Here is what John Sickels had to say about him in 2008:
3) Carlos Gomez, OF, Grade B/B+: Traded to Twins. Hitting .250/.284/.349 with 21 steals. Fun to watch due to glove and speed, but horrible plate discipline and lack of consistent power remain huge problems. Big difference between tools and skills here.
Like I said before, not really a fan of this trade. They must not have any faith in Lorenzo Cain.
Remember, his greatest asset is his speed, which is neutralized under the current manager.
Who cares about his speed? He won't be on base in the first place.
True. Now they absolutely CAN NOT sign Jason Kendall. With Gomez, Escobar, Kendall and the pitcher hitting consecutively, that would be Washington Nationals-esque.

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
Im happy Hardy is gone... I question getting Gomez, but JJ was awful last season... his value was pry this low... hopefully a change to the NL will make gomez get on a base a couple times this year

There's really not that much to neutralize. He's blazing fast, but he's not a good base-stealer.

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
Gomez' BABIP will have to be about .720 for him to have a lot of value.

Either this is a massive FAIL on Melvin's part, or Hardy's value had plummeted more than we realized.
+1.
The Brewers need pitching! We couldn't even get a minor league arm with the deal? Of course with his speed he'll be able to fly around the outfiled chasing down all those drives to the gap and holding hitters to doubles instead of triples.

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
Carlos Gomez - Minnesota Twins ZiPS Projection:
.249/.303/.359 G 136, AB 398, R 59, H 99, 2B 18, 3B 4, HR 6, RBI 39, BB 26, K 92, SB 23, CS 8, OPS+ 75
Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

This is going to clear up about $15 mm from not signing cameron... gomez is only 24... we can only hope he improves. The question is what pitching and catcher is DM going to go after?

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
I find it hard to believe that Carlos Gomez will do much more in center field than Jody Gerut would have done. Eff this trade. J.J. Hardy had much more trade value than Carlos Gomez...let's be honest.

I've been a DM fan in the past, but this just puzzles me.

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
Of course I like this trade :) Didn't want to see Orlando Cabrera come back to the Twins.
Gomez still has upside. He basically was the victim of too many OFs with the Twins. At least with the Brewers he should get the chance to play everyday, which he didn't get with the Twins. When Gomez did get some consecutive starts, he wasn't all that bad at the plate.

Re: Hardy traded to Twins
I'm a Twins fan and I'm pretty conflicted about this trade. Gomez was (and will be in Milwaukee) a fan favorite. The kid is electric. His problem is that he's "always" electric. He doesn't understand situations, working pitchers, etc.....but the kid definitely has all the tools needed and if he "gets it" he will be a very good player. Not sure where the Hardy acquisition fits in for the Twins? The signed Orlando Cabrera last year and he really solidified the SS position for them down the stretch and came up with a lot of big hits too. Can Hardy play 3rd? I guess it was basically a swap of "potential needs". You guys needed OF and got a guy with a lot of potential and the Twins need some IF and got the same in return. I hope Gomez works out for you guys. You'll love the kid all the while scratching your head wondering, "What the fu*k is he thinking". LOL
